Argentina Announces New Citizenship by Investment Pathway

Argentina has taken a significant step towards introducing a new citizenship option for international investors. At an announcement in Paris on October 2, the government outlined investment routes and a planned fourth-quarter opening, bringing greater clarity to one of the most closely watched developments in investment migration.

The announced investment options

Treasury contributionUS$350,000 for a single applicant; non-refundable.
Sovereign bond investmentUS$800,000 in an Argentine sovereign bond.

These are announced investment amounts. Final application requirements, fees and operational arrangements should be reviewed before proceeding. The contribution route involves a permanent outlay, while the bond route commits capital to sovereign debt. Investors should assess affordability, liquidity needs and sovereign credit risk alongside the citizenship objective. Neither announced amount should be treated as an all-inclusive quotation.

A pathway for families

The announced family provisions allow a spouse and eligible children to apply. Additional Treasury contributions are US$100,000 for a spouse and US$100,000 for each child aged 18–25 who has never married and has no children; children under 18 contribute US$25,000 each. Adult children need not demonstrate financial dependency. A couple with two children under 18 would therefore contribute US$500,000 under the contribution route.

Key benefits and regional opportunities

The IIG brochure highlights the following benefits and anticipated programme features:

  • Citizenship of a G20 country.
  • Visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 160+ destinations, as cited in the brochure; entry rules vary and may change.
  • Dual citizenship permitted, subject to the applicant’s existing nationality laws.
  • Family inclusion, with spouse and child provisions outlined above.
  • Argentine passports valid for ten years for adults; five years for minors.
  • No ongoing residence requirement expected.
  • One in-person visit after approval expected for biometrics, with no further physical presence anticipated.
  • Processing projected at under four months after a complete application is submitted.

Residence conditions, visit requirements and processing estimates remain subject to confirmation. MERCOSUR arrangements also offer preferential residence pathways in participating South American countries, subject to local requirements.

Argentina: culture, landscape and lifestyle

Argentina’s appeal extends beyond citizenship. Buenos Aires combines European-influenced architecture, dining and tango culture; Mendoza is renowned for Malbec vineyards against an Andean backdrop; and Patagonia offers glaciers, lakes and mountain landscapes. Together, they give the country a distinctive lifestyle proposition for families exploring travel, a future home or regional business opportunities.
